  • NAME
v5passwdd - Obsolete Kerberos V5 password change server
  • SYNOPSIS
      v5passwdd [-D level] [-m] [-nofork] [-port port] [-r realm] [-T keytab]
  • DESCRIPTION
v5passwdd supports password change requests from the v5passwd client using the older administrative protocol.  It is provided solely for backward compatibility with clients that use this protocol (mostly old terminal servers) and should not be run for any new installation.  If you are not upgrading an old, existing installation, you don't want to use this program.

As of October, 2003, MIT announced the end of life for this server.  When the Kerberos community was asked for feedback, no one was using this service who could not use the more modern Kerberos password changing protocol to accomplish the same goal.  Sites using this server should switch to kadmind and the corresponding kpasswd and kadmin client utilities.
